Most of you should already know that the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. The Governor of New Jersey has declared a State of Emergency, sporting events are canceled, and schools are making plans to implement virtual instruction in an effort to help slow the spread of the virus and to keep our healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed. We can help first by not panicking and taking some actions to help protect ourselves and those around us: Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, practice “social distancing,” and self-isolating/self-quarantining and contacting our doctors if we experience signs of illness.
At the Town Council meeting this past Wednesday (I am still working on that summary and will try to get it out in the coming days), the mayor indicated that communications would be disseminated to the town via Reverse 9-1-1 and the website (more about that in my meeting summary). But, as of yet, I have not seen anything. Councilwoman Tuohy did read a letter from our Office of Emergency Management (OEM) outlining their efforts coordinating with the county, so be assured that this *is* being taken seriously at that level.
I started this blog as a way to keep the community informed, not just of what was happening at the public meetings, but about events and other significant happenings in and around town. I know we all consume information in different ways. With that in mind, I will do my best to keep you all informed using reliable, fact-based sources. But this is not just about me, it is about our community and I don’t know everything that is happening. If there is information that you feel is important for the community to know, let me know and I will post it.
